About K9U—Faculty
Joan Harris
Obedience & Agility Instructor
For 17 years Joan Harris has been helping people develop healthy and happy relationships with their dogs at K9 University. Although originally attracted to dog training through her interest in German Shepherds and Schutzhund, Joan’s dog training interests are varied. She has earned titles in obedience, tracking and protection work and has coached students to obtain American Kennel Club obedience titles. She currently participates in agility training with her five-year-old German Shepherd Drago.
Joan enjoys working with her clients in the classroom setting or through private in-home sessions. She teaches K9U’s Puppy Class, Basic Obedience and Advanced Obedience and K9U’s Beginning Level Agility Class. Joan has a particular interest in helping people find solutions for correcting their dog’s behavioral issues.
Joan is involved with PAWS Chicago as a trainer and volunteer coach. She is a regular writer for PAWS Chicago Angel Tales Magazine and has been featured on Oprah.com. Joan feels that every dog she trains provides her with more insight into canine behavior. As head trainer at K9 University, she strives to keep her classes fun and challenging for her students.
